An Uncommon Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a
nonprofit foundation dedicated to enhancing the visibility,
strength and vitality of the lesbian community. Legacy invests in
our future by awarding scholarships to out students with
leadership potential, and by awarding grants to fund projects and
organizations that contribute to our community's health, education
and culture. Legacy is building an endowment to ensure permanent
financial support for lesbians. Legacy promotes philanthropy among
women and demonstrates the growing power of lesbian giving. For more information,

Offered by the University of California Gay and
Lesbian Alumni Club (UCGALA), this scholarship recognizes students
who have demonstrated leadership and community involvement, and
who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or supportive of gay issues.
Applications are available in September at the
Alumni Scholarship Office in Alumni House, the Student to Student
Counseling and MBGLA Offices at Eshleman Hall, the Health
Promotion Office in the Tang Center, and the Women's Studies
Office in Campbell Hall. Finalists are interviewed in October.
Awards for $1,000 each are made each October and is paid the
following January. Applicants should have a minimum of 3.0 gpa and
leadership in campus, community or job activities. Applicants must
be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender
Resource Center at University of California, Irvine offers the
following:
 | UCI LGBTRC Scholarship -- Two $1000
scholarships are intended for continuing students (one male,
one female) who have both benefited from and contributed to
the LGBTRC. This merit scholarship provides financial
assistance to students currently enrolled at UCI who identify
as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community,
participate in the activities of the UCI LGBTRC.
Applicants must complete an application form; and include on
(1) letter of recommendation, an official up-to-date UCI
transcript, a resume or description of LGBT-related
activities, and an essay |
 | Bruce Wade Memorial Scholarship --To
provide financial assistance to UCI lesbian, gay, bisexual
students who contribute to improving the campus environment
for other lesbian, gay, and bisexual students. Eligibility:
UCI students who are currently enrolled as an undergraduate or
graduate student and continuing at UCI in the 2000-2001
academic year. Students must have demonstrated service to the
LGBT campus community and satisfactory academic progress.
Selection Process: Selection is based on merit, quality of the
essay submitted, and references. Financial need may be
considered as a final selection criterion. |
 | James J. Harvey Dissertation Fellowship --
To provide financial assistance to graduate students
studying male or female homosexuality, including but not
limited to sociological, medical, political, historical and
legal ramifications or to the study of life and work of James
J. Harvey. Elibibility: The fellowship is open to
any UCI graduate student who has advanced to candidacy for the
PhD. and is studying male or female homosexuality. Proposals
should include a statement by the nominee describing the
dissertation project, progress to date, and schedule of
completion. Scholarship Range: The award consists
of student fees for one quarter, plus a $3,750 stipend. Two to
three scholarships are awarded per year. |

Lambda Alumni at the University of California, Los Angeleshas
provided thousands of dollars of scholarships for outstanding
lesbian and gay students at UCLA since 1989. In addition, we
sponsor student leadership training programs and support the work
of the UCLA Alumni Association Outreach Council. Lambda
Alumni seeks to support current UCLA students through a wide
variety of activities

The Lambda Alumni Association at
University of Southern California offers a nice variety of
scholarships. Recent Awards:
 | Lambda Alumni Lesbian Health Studies
Scholarship -- For a student enrolled on the Health
Sciences Campus (Graduate School, Medicine, Nursing,
Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician
Assistant) with a demonstrated commitment to promoting the
health of lesbians.
 | Thomas J. Peterson Scholarship in Business
Administration -- For a student in the Marshall School of
Business with a demonstrated commitment to eliminating
"glass-ceiling" constraints by application of acumen
gained in studying business administration.
 | Undergraduate Role Model -- For an
undergraduate who has demonstrated leadership through personal
efforts and accomplishments within the GLBT community or who
has served as a role model by involvement in other
organizations.
 | Graduate/Professional Role Model -- For
a graduate/professional student who has demonstrated
leadership through personal efforts and accomplishments within
the GLBT community or has served as a role model through
involvement in other organizations.
 | Women's Issues -- For an
undergraduate, graduate, or professional student, based on
demonstrated leadership and contribution in the area of
women's issues.
 | Cinema and Television -- For an
undergraduate, graduate, or professional student who is
outstanding in this major and has shown a commitment to using
media to focus on GLBT issues.
 | Research -- For a
graduate/professional student. Awarded to cover material costs
of a thesis or dissertation that has a direct impact on the
GLBT community. |
