Deadline: July 1, 2002
Newcastle, Australia, 29-30 October 2002. A
cultural event of the Gay Games, Sydney, 2002. Call for papers and
call for registrations of interest.
A diverse group of academics and general staff at the
University of Newcastle are working towards the formation of a Queer
Studies Centre. The Centre is planning a two-day conference in order to
explore general issues in relation to queer studies. It is hoped that
queer studies programs within Australian and New Zealand universities will
be given impetus from this conference.
The conference is entitled ‘Queer Studies: Out from the Centre’ in order
to capture the element of the relevance of regionality in queer lives.
This conference is a part of the cultural festival program of the Gay
Games Sydney 2002. It will take place in Newcastle, on Tuesday and
Wednesday 29-30 October 2002, in the week preceding the opening ceremony
of Gay Games. Newcastle is a wonderful historic port city, the capital of
the Hunter region, famous for sun, surf, music and wine, and just two
hours drive north of Sydney.
The conference organisers call for papers and
registrations of interest for this conference. Contributions specifically
directed at program development and the teaching of queer studies are
especially welcome. A highlight of this conference will be streams on
regional studies and business studies. Contributions of papers relevant to
program development and teaching in these areas will also be especially
welcome. Of course, the organisers will welcome any papers highlighting
current research in any taught discipline. Contributions from students
enrolled in queer studies programs are also sought. If you are interested
in presenting a paper at this conference or want to register for the
conference, please check our website at
