Are you a fag hag? Well, chances are that if you
don't know what that means, you probably aren't. I'm a fag
hag, and here's how I know: If a movie has a gay guy in it, I have
to see it. I have all of Armistead Maupin's books. If it's
revealed that a celebrity is gay, I find that his esteem rises in
my eyes. My best friend is gay. If I had the money, I'd be a drag
queen for Halloween every year.

Essay by Michael Graydon
Excerpt:
As a sexual safety educator for gay and bisexual
men, I have found that, for many bisexual men, the concepts of gay
and straight are fluid; they tend to identify themselves simply as
men who like sex with other men. This knowledge indicated that it
was essential to develop alliances and partnerships with women and
AIDS projects. We needed to learn from each other about these
populations women, and men who have sex with men and women and
come to understand how they interact and affect each other.

Excerpt:
We live in a society that often discriminates
against people who are different. We all have been taught to
believe that to be "straight" is to be normal. This can
cause a great deal of pain for gay men, lesbians, and bisexual
people.
"Coming out" or disclosing their
orientation to others is an important step in lesbigay people's
self-acceptance. Like everyone, lesbigay people accept themselves
better if they are accepted by others.
Someone who is coming out feels close enough to
you and trusts you sufficiently to be honest and risk losing you
as a friend. It is difficult to know what to say and do to be a
supportive friend to someone who has come out to you. Here are
some suggestions you may wish to follow...

Essay by Alan Hamilton & Bobbi
Keppel
Although this article isn't
strictly about straight woman/gay man relationships, it has
relevance to the topic.
Excerpt:
Oppression is the
systematic, societally-condoned mistreatment of people, simply
because they are believed to belong to a particular group. This
mistreatment includes both direct mistreatment of individuals and
the propagation of misinformation about the group and its members.
The direct mistreatment of individuals ranges from name calling
and threats of violence through hanging or beating people to
death. An example of misinformation is "Faggots are out to
molest our children and convert them to their abominable
lifestyle."
