On October 1, 1997, Virginia
Apuzzo was appointed as Assistant to the President for Management
and Administration. The Office of Management and Administration
directs the management and administrative functions of the entire
White House complex and has oversight responsibilities for all of
the agencies of the Executive Office of the President. As part of
this responsibility, Management and Administration directly
supervises many of the White House and Executive Office of the
President operating units including the White House Military
Office, Photography Office, Telephone Service, Travel Office,
Intern Program, Conference Center, Visitors Office, White House
administrative Office and the Office of Administration. In
addition, the Office of Management and Administration serves as a
liaison between the White House and other Federal Agencies (e.g.,
General Services Administration, National Park Service, United
