Hello Darling, Are You Working? Hello Darling, Are You Working? by Rupert Everett, Frances Crichton Stuart (Illustrator)

British actor Rupert Everett charmed his way into moviegoers' affections with his scene-stealing performance in "My Best Friend's Wedding." Everett is also the gifted writer of this scathingly funny novel of a down-and-out actor's zany misadventures amid a wildly colorful menagerie of madcap trendsetters.

Fame is a fleeting thing, as ex-soap opera star Rhys Waveral discovers. When he loses all his money in the stock market and no new acting jobs are forthcoming, eviction from his elegant hotel suite looms large. Stripped of all his assets, Rhys realizes he has only one thing left to sell: himself. And a pair of jet-setting dowagers couldn't be more thrilled. From staid English country houses to flamboyant Parisian nightclubs and an outrageous costume ball in Tangiers, Rupert Everett spins a raucous and irresistible modern farce.

Another CountryAnother Country (1984)

A marvelously acted and elegantly photographed film version of Julien Mitchell's hit London play which speculates on the public school days of real-life traitor/defector Guy Burgess. Rupert Everett is the languid "innocent," denied entry to the school's ruling elite because of an indiscreet homosexual affair. Cary Elwes is Everett's handsome lover.

If unavailable for purchase, this movie can be rented in the better video stores.  Well worth searching for.

Rupert Everett Biography

Excerpt:

As Julia Roberts’ homosexual editor and character foil in My Best Friend’s Wedding, Rupert Everett stole the show and brought down the house. Indeed, after test screenings, director P.J. Hogan recut the film to include more of Everett’s character.

Although he is new to American audiences, Everett had a long and bumpy career on the other side of the pond. Born in Norfolk, England on May 29, 1959, Everett grew up in a wealthy family. At seven years old, his parents placed Everett into the care of the Benedictine monks at Ampleforth College. Everett was a good student who was trained classically on the piano (although he harbored secret desires of being a rock star).

At age 15, he decided that he wanted to try his hand at acting and subsequently dropped out of school. Everett trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, but was not happy there. He had developed a substantial ego, and clashed frequently with his teachers...
