True
Selves : Understanding Transsexualism -- For Families, Friends,
Coworkers, and Helping Professionals by Mildred L.
Brown, Chloe Ann Rounsley
What is it like
to grow up in the wrong body? Are transsexuals considered
homosexuals? Filled with real-life stories, actual letters, and
touching poems, True Selves paints a heartfelt portrait of the
risk-taking, confusion, and--ultimately--the courage that
transsexuals face as they struggle to reveal their true being to
themselves and to others. Brown and
Rounsley's solidly based introduction to many aspects of living as
a transsexual provides general information about the dilemma of
feeling trapped in the wrong physical gender, about such a
person's development, and about locating a gender therapist. Brown
and Rounsley also detail the process of transition between
genders, starting with legal and identity changes and proceeding
to changing outward modes of self-presentation (they include
sample "coming-out" letters to employers, coworkers,
friends, and family members) and dealing with bathroom issues,
hormone treatments, surgical options, and guidelines for finding
social support. First-person accounts from transsexuals augment
general readability and put human faces on the issues discussed. Whitney

Think of transition as a journey. If you're
going on a trip, you decide on a destination, the time you will
spend traveling, and the money you'll spend. That's all you have
to do for transition, too-- just on a larger scale. This is
designed to be a travel guide to set priorities and make an
itinerary.
This site is about making informed purchasing
decisions and setting realistic, achievable transition goals.

Western Transsexual Support Network (WTSN)
is a support group for those who are suffering from Gender
Identity Dysphoria or GID. The group is a support group not a
social group, although many of the members do socially interact.
We support and understand the needs of the TS community, as well
as spouses/S.O.s, family and friends. We do not advocate that TS
people are psychologically ill, abnormal, wierd, or deserve
special treatment. Rather, we support the community and provide
resources for those who have concluded that they are GID or those
exploring their gender identity.
