Since its founding in 1990, NLGJA
has grown to a 1,350-member, 23-chapter organization in the United States
and affiliations in Canada and Germany. The issues of same-sex marriage,
gay families, parenting and adoption, gays in the military, sex education
in the schools, civil liberties, gay-related ballot initiatives, gay
bashing and anti-gay violence are commanding media attention with
regularity. NLGJA has had a positive effect on responsible gay coverage,
but we still have work to do.
NLGJA keeps its members informed of
legislative issues that impact gays and lesbians through our website,
e-mail and our newsletter. We do not, however, lend our name to, nor
participate as a group in political action events or organizations.

The National Stonewall Democratic Federation was created by
members of our community from across the country to achieve specific
goals. We are:
 | Mobilizing voters through a national grassroots network
of gay and lesbian Democratic clubs and individuals to advance
the fight for gay and lesbian civil rights |
 | Improving the record of the Democratic party by
pressing it further in the direction of full recognition of the right
of gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals to be free from prejudice |
 | Working for the nomination of Democratic candidates
who will be fully supportive of our fight against bigotry |
 | Educating voters on the vast difference that exists
between the two major parties on our issues, and on the
importance of voting Democratic as the most effective way to
achieve our goals |
 | Fighting the anti-gay rhetoric of the Republican conservative-wing,
which has increasingly become the instrument of those dedicated
to denying us our rights |
