Outside - The Signorile Report on Gay Men: Sex, Drugs, Muscles,
and the Passages of Life by Michelangelo
Signorile
Michelangelo Signorile was an
outspoken advocate of gay culture whose brush with mortality after
engaging in risky sex changed his outlook on life. In Life
Outside, Signorile, a columnist for Out magazine,
explores the changing lifestyles and mores of gay men through
interviewing and surveying hundreds of gays--in the cities, in the
country, and everywhere in between. In addition, he provides a
fascinating history of gay culture, from the closeted '50s, when
most homosexuals found sexual release by "servicing"
straight men, through the '70s and '80s, when physical beauty and
promiscuity became the hallmarks of gay life.

Founded eleven years and over 5,000 graduates
ago, Pride Institute remains America's only accredited inpatient
facility devoted exclusively to the treatment of alcohol and drug
dependent lesbian, gay and bisexual persons. Pride Institute is
dedicated to the idea that lesbians and gay men have the same need
for freedom from society's prejudices and pressures as every other
patient in treatment.
Many lesbians and gay men who are chemically
dependent do not succeed in traditional treatment programs. Most
patients do succeed at Pride. In fact, an independent outcome
study conducted by researchers from Yale University and the
University of Pennsylvania found that Pride Institute graduates
are far more likely to remain chemical free than gay graduates of
mainstream programs.

This site is to help you find methods of
recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol which are best suited
to your needs. It contains links to 12-step programs such as
Alcoholics Anonymous and to "alternative" programs like
Rational Recovery. It is also helpful in finding discussion
groups, therapists, and treatment facilities.

The Web of Addictions is dedicated to
providing accurate information about alcohol and other drug
addictions. We developed the Web of Addictions for several
reasons. We are concerned about the pro drug use messages in some
Web sites and in some use groups. We are concerned about the
appalling extent of misinformation about abused drugs on the
internet, particularly on some usenet news groups. Finally, we
wanted to provide a resource for teachers, students and others who
needed factual information about abused drugs.
